The Cursed Bear

The Cursed Bear

“That one,” Liz said, pointing out at an old, worn-out teddy bear. She was at ‘The Michael’s Thrift Store’ shopping for her new yet old house. New, yet old? Well, her house was new to her, but it was old, a hundred years old!  She was purchasing antique furniture for her chamber, which is her room. That’s what she called it – ‘Liz’s Chamber.’

The employee quickly held up the teddy, covered most of his face, and handed it to Liz. Liz caught hold of the gigantic teddy and stared at it for a while. She mumbled, “It’s got a button on one of its eyes! And a stitch on the other. The bow is dusty, but I can make it work.”

She stuffed the big bear in her shopping cart, pushed it, and strode away. She held the teddy up with her tiny hands and placed it on the billing counter. The cashier was old, and her veins were slightly popping out from her thin pale hands. She had long fingers and very sharp nails! Her hand was like a witch’s. She had a long grumpy face with a sharp chin and wrinkles. She looked exactly like a witch. Liz was terrified! The witch, I mean the cashier, growled in a low voice, “are you sure you want that teddy, my dear?” Liz was weirdly quiet. She then spoke up, “Y-Yes, please, I’d l-like to b-b-uy this,” she stammered. The old lady slyly smirked, which didn’t go unnoticed by Liz.

The cashier held the bar code reader very vigorously and scanned the tag behind the ear of the teddy. “2 Dollars”. Liz took her wallet out of her pocket and paid the not-so-hefty bill. She turned back to get a bag, but the lady had disappeared! Poof! Liz freaked out and ran as fast as thunder.

Liz was running through the dust-filled roads while thinking about the horrifying scene she had just seen. She entered her house, banging the old wooden door, to find out that she was home alone! She ran to her chamber, hugged the old brown teddy, and sobbed continuously out of fear.

Just as she calmed, she placed the teddy bear right beside the wardrobe and went outside to search for her parents. She ran down the uneven stairs, opened the door- or at least tried to open the door, but it wouldn’t open! She tried a million times before she gave up and sobbed her way back to her chamber. As she opened the squeaky room door, she saw the teddy standing upright right in front of her. The teddy freaked her out even more than the disappearing cashier! She was so scared that she was about to close the door, but Teddy held it and said, “I need you to come with me. “My kingdom is in great danger, and I need you to help me!” he said. Liz was speechless listening to her teddy talk.
