‘Arise, Awake, and Stop not until the goal is reached.’
One of the great monks, Swami Vivekanand, was born on 12 Jan 1863 in Culcutta. It was then not known as an auspicious day, but it is now. The birth date of Swami is considered ‘National Youth Day. Swamiji was a saint, a very rigid patriot, and an outstanding speaker. He had a brilliant thought process and a unique mindset. He has written a good deal of quotes, books, and poems. He has proved to be one of a kind leader—a leader who cannot be rebuilt for centuries to come.
9 Sep 1893, a glorious day. A day to be remembered by all proud Indians and about 7000 people present for Swami Vivenkanand’s groundbreaking speech in Chicago, ‘World’s Parliament for Religion,’ introduced Hinduism to America and called for religious tolerance and an end fanaticism.
Swamiji had reached America a month and a half ago, then the up and high men gave him an impaired vision, which he accepted with no bad intentions. He didn’t let anything offend him, and he carried on. As spoken then, blacks were not considered.
Swami started his speech with easy yet appreciative words as he stood on the stage. He said, ‘Sisters and brothers of America.’ Those five words touched the hearts of many, and they clapped in synchronization. These five words of kindness explained the thinking of Swami. He considered everyone family. He didn’t look at their caste, religion, gender, lace of birth, and color. He respected everyone and treated them equally, unlike how people treated him. He thought of everyone as his own and treated everybody equally. He believed in simple living. The 7000 people present in the auditorium clapped for a continuous 15 minutes.
He believed that discovering the self is discovering god. Without self-confidence, self-realization, we can’t find god, is what he thought. If you don’t help yourself, god shall not help you. The route to god is the route to self-realization. Once you realize what discovering oneself means, you have found god. God is nothing but leaving all fancy things and as we advance to live a simple life. This is nothing but god.
Swami Vivekanand also explains that we should have a goal to attain and achieve god. We should try with all efforts to attain this. Setting a goal, reaching it, and then turning lazy is the same as not setting a dream at all. The main goal here should be to attain god, self-discovery. Completing a plan should also be mandatory.
Swami Vivekanand has done marvelous deeds, which are remembered to date. His words and sayings have been proved effective for all. Such as Swami Vivekanand, whose real name was Narendra, Our prime minister Narendra Modi, has followed in his footsteps and is doing great deeds himself. Swami Ji has helped many lives, and our prime minister ought to do so. Just like swami Ji, and our prime minister, Narendra Modi Ji, we shall follow the route of Swami Vivekanand to attain god. All this is his message to young adults.
